Calvin Samuel, Ph.D.Durham, England
The Reverend Dr. Calvin Samuel is Director of the Wesley Study Centre in Durham, England, and New Testament Lecturer at Cranmer Hall. He previously was New Testament Tutor at Spurgeon's College in London and Chaplain to Farringtons School in the Orpington and Chislehurst Methodist Circuit. Dr. Samuel has research interests in Wesleyan tradition and biblical understandings of doctrines of holiness. He brings a wealth of experience, including previous roles in higher education at London Business School and Manchester University, as well as business, teaching and circuit experience. Having pursued a career in banking, Dr. Samuel spent four intense and happy years completing a B.A. in Theology and Pastoral Studies at the Nazarene Theological College in Manchester. Over the next three years he undertook an M.B.A. at Manchester Business School, alongside working in higher education. Over the course of two stations as a Methodist circuit minister and New Testament Tutor at Spurgeon's College he undertook Ph.D. studies in Theology and Education at King's College London. He was awarded his Ph.D. for a multidisciplinary thesis exploring the interplay between biblical studies, church history and education entitled, Holiness and Holy School.
