Spiritual Formation at Wesley

Jesus prayerfully scanned his group of followers with a request that his Father help him identify the best cadre of believers to whom he could impart some deep spiritual truths. We know this group to be the Twelve Disciples. Jesus invested considerable time and energy in helping them to become more like Him—to be one with the Father and Himself (John 17).

Fast forward 2000 years to the Wesley Biblical Seminary campus. Here we find a select group of 175 men and women who have chosen to take a step toward advanced theological and Christian leadership formation. This group includes a faculty of men and women who are committed to living and reproducing Christlikeness in the lives of our students.

The newly revised curriculum now includes a formation component that intentionally guides everyone in the seminary community to Christlikeness. The faculty included the Cumulative Formation Practices (CFPs) in the curriculum in order to comply with accreditation standards. However, more importantly, we included the CFPs out of a conviction that theological education and leadership development should be about more than the mere acquisition of knowledge. Professional education must include the shaping and forming of the students’ character and values and make tthe students’ spiritual growth and vitality a top priority.
